TraSiPesc: Cloud computing based traceability information system for fishery

Food safety remains a critical issue with outbreaks of foodborne illnesses resulting in substantial costs to individuals, the food industry and the economy. The major purpose of the fishery products made in Romania is to penetrate the European market. Thus, the main research direction for the Romanian food industry is to select, settle and implement traceability systems in order to comply with European requirements and consumer’s demands. The traceability system is considered as an effective tool to guarantee safety in fish products and to improve the supply chain transparency. The project proposes the development of a system that can track the traceability of fish products using Computing Cloud and matrix barcodes (or twodimensional barcodes). The main objectives of this traceability system are to improve the management of risks related to food safety and animal health issues, to guarantee products’ authenticity and to give reliable information to customers, and, eventually, to improve the quality of the products.
