71 MSP Practices

NorthSEE

The report is the result of the NorthSEE project.

Over the last decade, the accelerated transition towards cleaner means of producing energy has been clearly prioritised by the European Union through large-scale planned deployment of wind farms in the North Sea.

MARITIME STUDIES

Both policy-makers and scholars acknowledge and emphasize the need for learning in maritime spatial planning (MSP). However, few explain why learning is important.

COEXIST

This tool allows a (semi-)quantitative conflict analysis. It uses spread sheet programs and is based on expert judgement rather than data.

Dutch MSP process

This practice shows how safety distances can be calculated between areas used for shipping and offshore wind farms.

ATLAS - Understanding deep Atlantic Ecosystems

The document provides an inventory of deep-sea ecosystem services (as well as their Blue Growth potential) in various locations of the North Atlantic.

BALTSPACE

The Bow-tie approach comes from a risk assessment background.

Angel Borja, Michael Elliott, María C. Uyarra, Jacob Carstensen and Marianna Mea

This book provides a 2017 update on scientific findings regarding implementing the European Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD), and its aim of achieving good environmental status in all European seas by 2020.

By 2050 the world population is expected to reach 10 billion people. This population needs food, water and energy. Increasingly, opportunities are sought out at sea to accommodate these needs.

Baltic LInes

To achieve renewable energy targets, some MSP authorities are zoning for Offshore Wind Farms in their Maritime Spatial Plans. An important factor for the energy production of a specific site is the so-called capacity density.

SEANSE

This study, conducted within the SEANSE project, provides an overview of the similarities and differences between North Sea countries regarding current SEA (Strategic Environmental Assessment) and EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment) contents wit
