Towards an Atlantic Vision for Maritime Spatial Planning



Join us online to hear about progress on the SIMAtlantic project and the Atlantic Action Plan.

Help us develop a vision for maritime spatial planning (MSP) in the European Atlantic region, with lessons from experiences elsewhere and input from MSP stakeholders.

The event is part of the European Maritime Day ‘In My Country’ programme. EMD is an annual meeting point on maritime affairs and sustainable blue growth, engaging citizens across Europe through EMD In My Country.

Explore the future with the MSP Challenge Simulation Platform – an EMD 2021 'In my Country' event



The aim of this workshop is to showcase the MSP Challenge Simulation Platform to the MSP community and the possibilities it has to offer. Join this workshop and experience the MSP Challenge simulation software yourself and test out a future scenario for the North Sea.

European Maritime Day 2021

The European Maritime Day (EMD) 2021 will take place on 20-21 May in Den Helder, the Netherlands. EMD 2021 is the annual two-day event during which Europe’s maritime community meets to network, discuss and forge joint action on maritime affairs and sustainable blue economy. 

EMD Conference provides an interactive experience to catch up on the current state of play on a broad range of issues concerning the blue economy and the marine environment and discuss ways of moving forward. It features a large number of speakers, multiple breakout sessions and project pitch sessions organised by stakeholders and EC services as well as hundreds of B2B meetings. EMD targets professionals from businesses, governments, public institutions, NGOs and academia.

The event will be co-organised with the City of Den Helder, the Province of Noord-Holland and the Ministerie van Infrastructuur en Waterstaat.

Virtual Workshop on Marine Spatial Planning in Africa



The Centre for Coastal Management of the University of Cape Coast in collaboration with the University of Liverpool is hosting a day's workshop aimed at providing a platform for engagement of key stakeholders involved in marine spatial planning (MSP) in African countries bordering the Atlantic. The event will be held on 26 May 2021 from 9:00 to 15:00 GMT and hosted via the Zoom Video Conferencing App.

4th Baltic MSP Forum.

The 4th Baltic MSP Forum will be held on 1-2 June 2021 online and will be broadcasted from Latvia. The Forum is organised by two Interreg BSR projects Capacity4MSP and Land-Sea-Act and it serves as a final conference for both projects.

‘Delivering MSP – Interactions and Capacities Across All Levels’ that is the slogan of the 4th Baltic MSP Forum. It comes with a message that in year 2021, when all countries in the BSR are on track with Maritime Spatial Plans and are stepping into plan implementation phase, consequent question arises – what’s next? ​

EMODnet Open Conference and Jamboree 2021

Connecting Open Data, Delivering Marine Knowledge: A Vision for 2030

During the event, EMODnet partners, data providers and users will connect across stakeholder communities and look ahead to help us design and implement EMODnet next phase to 2030 and beyond.

To start the week, the Open Conference (14-16 June 2021) will provide a unique opportunity to recognise and further develop existing and emerging partnerships, and to listen to marine data providers and users experiences and appreciation of the value of EMODnet data, data products and services, and what can be done further to optimise the user experience.

An EMODnet Jamboree with partners meetings of the 7 thematics and data ingestion, upon invitation, will take place on the 17 and 18 June 2021.  As well as plenary presentations, panels and breakout discussions, participants are invited to submit an abstract for an online poster, to be presented as a 1-minute pitch presentation in plenary sessions. 

This event is co-organised by the EMODnet Secretariat and DG MARE, in collaboration with VLIZ.

CoastGIS 2021 in Raseborg, hosted by Novia University of Applied Sciences, will be the 14th consecutive symposium for an international exchange of knowledge, ideas and experience on how spatial data and information technologies aid marine and coastal zone managers and stakeholders in better understanding and managing coastal space and resources. It will be a hybrid event, enabling both in-person and virtual participation.

This symposium theme "Sustainable Coastal Planning in a Changing World" refers to the challenges faced worldwide in light of sustainable development and emphasis will be on cooperation in spatial planning between countries. The symposium aims to address recent challenges in managing our coastlines effectively and sustainably.
