31 March, 2017
Brussels, Belgium

In 2016, ten countries signed a Political Declaration on energy cooperation between the North Seas Countries. The Declaration set the objective to facilitate the further cost-effective deployment of offshore renewable energy, in particular wind, through voluntary cooperation, with the aim of ensuring a sustainable, secure and affordable energy supply, and to promote interconnection between the countries.

Dominique Ristori, the European Commission's Director-General for Energy, and Nancy Mahieu, acting Director-General for Energy of the Belgian Federal Public Service Economy, SMEs, Self-Employed and Energy, will have the pleasure to open the North Seas Energy Forum. The event will take place in Brussels on 23 March 2017 with the aim to bring together various stakeholders from the public, private and non-governmental sectors in the region to discuss the challenges and opportunities and the role of stakeholders in realising the North Seas full energy potential.
