OceanWise, in co-operation with IMarEST, will be running a one-day Marine Data Management Awareness Course on Wednesday 8th February 2017 at IMarEST HQ, 1 Birdcage Walk, London, SW1H 9JJ.
Data is now considered the “new oil” or the “new electricity!” It costs money so we always collect it for a good reason and, because it is such a valuable asset, it needs to be treated accordingly. A solid understanding of data management is vital for anyone using marine data so the course will look at how effective data management can improve your organisation’s efficiency in data acquisition, storage, analysis and re-use. This will enable you to better understand data use in respect of corporate risk, audit and traceability and reducing costs.
The course will introduce “Data and Why It Matters” and examine the Data Life-Cycle, Data and Metadata Standards, Co-ordinate Reference Systems and Data Quality and Publishing and participants will discuss the challenges faced in achieving Data Management "Best Practice". So if you are involved in collecting, managing, using or publishing marine data, this course will provide you with an invaluable insight on the world of data.
