The European Commission and the European External Action Service invite maritime stakeholders worldwide to a high-level event presenting final recommendations and next steps for a global ocean sustainability action developed under the EU International Ocean Governance (IOG) Forum.

Planned as a virtual event on the afternoon (CET) of April 20, 2021, the 3rd IOG Forum will not only present the outcome of the IOG Forum process but also announce the next steps for the European Commission’s post-2020 IOG Agenda.

Fisheries and aquaculture in the Danube and the Black Sea region: views for building forward better

The online conference will be held on 22 April 2021 from 11:00 to 13:00 (CEST). The event will be hosted by MEP Carmen AVRAM, SEArica Vice-Chair responsible for the Danube and the Black Sea, and co-organised by the Balkan and Black Sea Commission of the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions of Europe (CPMR BBSC) and the International Centre for Black Sea Studies (ICBSS). 
The conference will be divided in two sessions. The first one will address the challenges of the fisheries sector related to the pandemic, such as disruptions in supply chains for fish and aquatic foods caused by disturbances of transportation, trade, and labour. The second session will discuss opportunities and next steps for the post-COVID-19 era.

Maritime Spatial Planning and the Baltic Blue Bioeconomy

The workshop "Maritime Spatial Planning and the Baltic Blue Bioeconomy" is one of the events organised within the 'Better Off Blue‘ Event Series. 

This online workshop is organised as a joint activity of the Capacity4MSP project, which aims to strengthen the capacity of maritime spatial planning stakeholders, policy- and decision-makers through intensified dialogue activities and amplifying gained knowledge in MSP, and the Interreg BSR BlueBioSites Seed money project, which aims to develop a BSR-wide project that will develop an effective system for identification and monitoring of Blue Bioeconomy sites. Both projects are co-financed by the Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme.

The workshop is relevant for a range of Baltic Blue bioeconomy actors including MSP authorities, ministries and authorities responsible for licensing and permitting of Blue Bioeconomy activities, and SMEs (e.g. mussel farm operators etc). Specifically, the workshop will gather input and feedback on the ‘State of Play’ report capturing the state of blue bioeconomy siting, developed as part of BlueBioSites.

Marine Spatial Planning, a solution for our ocean: How an ecosystem based approach can achieve healthier seas

WWF European Policy Office organises a zoom webinar on the 11th May 2021 from 09.30 to 11:00. The event will be co-hosted by Morten Petersen MEP (Renew) and Grace O Sullivan MEP (Greens), and will aim at sharing knowledge and best practices on MSP processes across the EU based on inputs from key experts at EU, regional and national levels during a high-level discussion. WWF will also introduce their latest report “Ecosystem-based Maritime Spatial Planning in Europe and how to assess it”, which sets out to provide further guidance about how to design, produce, and implement robust and effective plans.

The SIMAtlantic project is holding an online event on 18 May 2021, jointly with the European MSP Platform and the Assistance Mechanism for the Atlantic Action Plan

Join us to hear about progress on the SIMAtlantic project and the development of a shared vision for Maritime Spatial Planning in the European Atlantic region. This event will update participants on progress made in relation to MSP and transboundary issues in the region, along with views from sectors [and other sea basin regions]. The aim is to inform the development of an Atlantic Vision for MSP, an output of the SIMAtlantic project, with lessons from experiences elsewhere and the inputs from marine users, interest groups and countries.

European Maritime Day 2021

The European Maritime Day (EMD) 2021 will take place on 20-21 May in Den Helder, the Netherlands. EMD 2021 is the annual two-day event during which Europe’s maritime community meets to network, discuss and forge joint action on maritime affairs and sustainable blue economy. 

EMD Conference provides an interactive experience to catch up on the current state of play on a broad range of issues concerning the blue economy and the marine environment and discuss ways of moving forward. It features a large number of speakers, multiple breakout sessions and project pitch sessions organised by stakeholders and EC services as well as hundreds of B2B meetings. EMD targets professionals from businesses, governments, public institutions, NGOs and academia.

The event will be co-organised with the City of Den Helder, the Province of Noord-Holland and the Ministerie van Infrastructuur en Waterstaat.

The 4th Baltic MSP Forum will be held on 1-2 June 2021 online and will be broadcasted from Latvia. The Forum is organised by two Interreg BSR projects Capacity4MSP and Land-Sea-Act and it serves as a final conference for both projects.

‘Delivering MSP – Interactions and Capacities Across All Levels’ that is the slogan of the 4th Baltic MSP Forum. It comes with a message that in year 2021, when all countries in the BSR are on track with Maritime Spatial Plans and are stepping into plan implementation phase, consequent question arises – what’s next? ​

Connecting Open Data, Delivering Marine Knowledge: A Vision for 2030

During the event, EMODnet partners, data providers and users will connect across stakeholder communities and look ahead to help us design and implement EMODnet next phase to 2030 and beyond.

To start the week, the Open Conference (14-16 June 2021) will provide a unique opportunity to recognise and further develop existing and emerging partnerships, and to listen to marine data providers and users experiences and appreciation of the value of EMODnet data, data products and services, and what can be done further to optimise the user experience.

An EMODnet Jamboree with partners meetings of the 7 thematics and data ingestion, upon invitation, will take place on the 17 and 18 June 2021.  As well as plenary presentations, panels and breakout discussions, participants are invited to submit an abstract for an online poster, to be presented as a 1-minute pitch presentation in plenary sessions. 

This event is co-organised by the EMODnet Secretariat and DG MARE, in collaboration with VLIZ.
